Visits Advice

Jim Potter

Jim joins the LOtC and Visits Advice team with over fifteen years experience within the Education/ Outdoor Learning sector.His career began with teaching PE to 11-18 year old students, and has subsequently involved working with various groups including adult offenders, and looked after children with significant emotional and behavioural issues.  More recently Jim returned to North Wales and joined the permanent teaching team of Conway Centres: Anglesey, delivering outdoor education to visiting groups Jim is a qualified PE teacher with a specialism in outdoor education.

Jim holds both the Summer and Winter Mountain Leader award.  He is also qualified to teach rock climbing and abseiling, white water rafting, canoeing and kayaking, orienteering, mountain biking and dinghy sailing.

Jim has worked with groups of all ages in Scotland, England and Wales.  He has also spent time leading adult trekking groups abroad to destinations including Peru, Iceland and Nepal. Jim is an accredited practitioner of the Institute of Outdoor Learning, and now acts as a mentor to candidates on the APIOL scheme. 

In his spare time he enjoys being active in the outdoors, usually canoeing or kayaking with his wife - with recent holidays being spent in Canada, France and Austria.  In August Jim travelled by canoe across Scotland via the Caledonian Canal within three days.
