Raft Building

This could almost be termed a movable feast of team-working, others sometimes call it technology in action; both are apt descriptions as the participants work together to devise their craft and then build them out of various bits and pieces, including barrels, poles and ropes. Their aim is to create a floating raft that will allow the group to complete a challenge course, a course that they alone have to paddle and steer around.

The session takes place at Conway Centres: Anglesey's own private sheltered dock; or, sometimes out onto the Menai Strait as conditions dictate. Participants are given as much or as little help as is necessary during the design and build stages and then it is over to them. Everyone wears a buoyancy aid and a helmet, and a safety boat is always on stand by just in case.

This is a real life technology project with real consequences, it is deal for focussing on communication, cooperation and shared responsibility. It is suitable for participants of all ages. The environment also allows for the introduction of water safety.
