Orienteering is an energetic sport and it is often used in schools to teach mapwork skills as well; however, here at Conway Centres: Anglesey we aim to provide a fun activity for all abilities but in a far more challenging area than the school grounds and perhaps introduce a competetive element too. We have a number of different orienteering maps sets, each with a differing level of difficulty and a large area of varied terrain including buildings, parkland and woods.

This activity involves being taught navigation skills and mapwork in a progressive environment. Orienteering challenges can be set to allow participation by all ages and ability. Conway Centres: Anglesey is set in extensive and quiet grounds, providing an ideal introduction to the sport of orienteering. We also use a variety of other local venues depending on the requirements and experience of the group. More orienteering takes place throughout the other four Conway Centres, in a variety of locations chosen to match age and experience of participants.

Orienteering is great fun and allows participants to have a sense of freedom and responsibility for themselves within a controlled area.  It focuses on decision making, building independence and raising self esteem. High levels of fitness are not a prerequisite as participants choose which speed to complete the challenges, indeed accuracy is often more important than speed.
