Facilities at Conway Centres: Anglesey

The residential experience offered at the centre provides the ideal opportunity to meet the aims of the Learning Outside the Classroom manifesto. As members of the ‘Learning through Landscapes’ organisation, together with our membership of the ‘eco-schools’ program the centre strives to compliment the wider environmental context of the area as a whole. This is a grade one starred site, with  ancient woodland on one side and bounded by a potential matrine nature reserve (the Menai Strait) on the other.

The 42 acres which surround the Menai building offer a unique opportunity to use the environment to create memorable experiences and raise achievement.

To this end you will see on your journey around the site, timbers salvaged from the Menai Strait being fashioned into sculptural pieces; plantations of indigenous trees, long grassed areas to provide habitats for wildlife such as stoats and voles; bats nesting in the holes of large trees.

A concern for sustainable development, high insulation values, close and careful monitoring of utility usage and energy efficiency has led this centre to achieve National sustainability awards. Further feasibility studies are at present being carried out into wind generation and solar photovoltaic energy harvesting. Nothing is left to waste, with a reed bed forming the final treatment phase of our sewage treatment facilities, the final process in a cycle of reuse, recycle and reduce which permeates all the activities at the centre.
