I love being outside in any weather, the worse the weather, the more fun I have. That’s a good start to working in outdoor education!  I went to an Outdoor Education Centre when I was at school in North Yorkshire.  I was eleven and it was the first time in my school life that I really felt like I had done well. My outdoor teacher Sam encouraged me to do things that I hadn’t believed possible for me.  We skied in the snow, we built shelters and slept overnight in them, we went underground, and rock climbed. It inspired me to follow a career in this environment. I came to Conway Centres: Anglesey in September 2000 after completing a PGCE in Outdoor Education at Bangor University. I spent two years under contract, then left to work as a freelance instructor in other North Wales Centres in order to gain more experience. I returned as part of the permanent teaching staff to Conway Centres: Anglesey in 2010. I love my job, its brilliant; I can’t believe that I’m employed to do what I love... teaching outside. When I have time to myself I swim, run, ride my mountain bike, surf, do yoga and knit but never at the same time!
